What to Expect When You Get Your Carpets Cleaned

Why Get Your Carpets Cleaned

Summer is full of activity. It’s prime time for catching up on yard work, tackling house repairs, or even moving to a new home. Summer is also a time for making memories – but not all of them are good. We’re thinking things like when the family dog tracks in mud after a downpour or your three-year-old practices independence by applying sunscreen everywhere (including the walls and floors!). All this activity can wear down your carpets. Which is why summer is a great time to get your carpets professionally cleaned.

Not only does professional carpet cleaning extend the life of your carpets, but it also gets rid of allergens - removing dirt and debris so your carpets last longer and feel fresh.

How to Prepare for a Carpet Cleaning with Total Care

Preparing for carpet cleaning is a simple process when you work with Total Care Cleaning & Restoration. Here are a few steps to take before our technicians arrive:

  1. Make sure the area is tidy – Pick up any clothes, toys, or breakable items before your appointment. It’s a good idea to vacuum so that our equipment can get the deepest clean possible. There’s no need to move furniture – our technicians will move most furniture during the appointment. Heavy furniture (such as wardrobes or large sectionals) will be cleaned around, so you will need to move heavy furniture out of the room if you’d like the carpets underneath to be clean. If you’re unsure if a piece should be moved, contact us before your appointment and we’d be happy to help.

  2. Secure your pets – Some pets may be afraid of the noises during cleaning or try to escape the house when the equipment is carried into your home, so you may want to keep them crated during your appointment. Rest assured, all of our products are non-toxic and safe for pets and kids, but it’s still a good idea to keep pets out of the way to avoid any accidents.

  3. Let us know where to park – If there isn’t any street parking available by your home or you live in an apartment with limited access, let our technicians know the best place to park during the cleaning.

  4. Tell us about stains or problem areas when we arrive – This helps our technicians spot clean stains or treat fragile areas with the care necessary to keep your carpets lasting longer and looking great.

We recognize that getting your home ready for your appointment can involve a lot more than tidying and we make sure all that time and effort is worth it. Our technicians are efficient, mindful of your home and belongings, and go the extra mile to make sure you and your carpets are taken care of.

After a Professional Cleaning

When your appointment is over, our chemicals and deep clean process will leave your carpet slightly damp. It’s important not to walk on your carpet with shoes until it’s dry because dirt and stains from shoes can be difficult to clean. It can take 2 to 8 hours for your carpet to dry depending on the area and the humidity. Setting up fans, turning on the A/C or opening windows for air circulation can help shorten drying time. Carpets should be professionally cleaned once every 12 to 18 months (or once a year for busier parts of your home) to keep them durable and clean.
